Legal & Professional Services
IT for law firms and professional services.
Two failure modes, opposite and both fatal: a breach that exposes client data, and an outage that causes a missed deadline. The work is protecting against both at once.
Confidentiality is an obligation, not a preference
Client information in a legal or accounting practice carries professional responsibility on top of regulatory exposure. Access should be scoped so people reach the matters they are actually on and nothing else, and that access should be logged. Most firms we assess have permissions that accumulated over years and have never been reviewed, which means a paralegal who moved teams three years ago can still open files from a matter that closed before that.
Wire fraud is the attack that actually hits firms
Business email compromise targeting trust accounts, closing funds, and client payments is the loss that shows up in bar journals. It rarely involves sophisticated technical exploitation. It involves a convincing email at the right moment in a transaction. Domain authentication so nobody can plausibly impersonate your firm, filtering tuned for internal-looking messages, and a verification process for payment changes that does not rely on email are the controls that matter.
Availability is a deadline problem
Document management systems, practice management platforms, and e-filing access have to be available when they are needed, and courts do not accept infrastructure as an excuse. That means tested recovery, redundancy where it is justified, and knowing in advance what your fallback is when the primary system is down on a filing day.
Remote and mobile work without opening holes
Attorneys and accountants work from courthouses, client sites, and home offices. Securing that means device management, encrypted access, multi-factor authentication that does not make people give up and find a workaround, and a clear answer to what happens when a laptop is left in a rental car.
Common Questions
Legal questions, answered straight.
Can you work with our existing practice management software?
Almost always. We coordinate with your line-of-business vendors rather than pushing you toward whatever we prefer to support. The application is your choice. Making it available, backed up, and secured is ours.
What happens if a laptop with client files is lost?
With the right controls in place beforehand, it is an inconvenience rather than an incident: the device is encrypted, it can be remotely wiped, and access can be revoked centrally. Without those controls it is a disclosure event. The difference is decided months before it happens.
